1975年畢業於國立台灣師範大學美術系，並擁有美國紐 約市立大學美術研究所碩士學位。前台師大美術系所主任所長、目前兼任國立台灣 師範大學美術研究所教授、中壢萬能科技大學創意藝術中心主任。作品融合中西文化，繪畫理論，表現技法，並以台灣特有的自然地理環境，與當代人文思想、社會變遷為創作內涵，將生活上所見、所知、所 想表現出來。兼蓄傳統情感、現實社會、人生閱歷而自創風格，勁奇舒暢，綿密厚實，開展了現代水彩畫新風貌。

He graduated from the Dept. of Fine Arts of National Taiwan Normal University in 1975. Yuan also holds a M.F.A degree from The City College of the City University of New York. Presently, he is a professor in the Department of Fine Arts, National Taiwan Normal University, Taipei, R.O.C. Yuan’s work is infused with Chinese and Western art theories and techniques. He records what he sees, knows, and thinks in his daily life: the topography of Taiwan, contemporary thoughts and social change. His works encompass subtle sentiments, social realism and his life philosophy, and are underscored by an amazing expressivity. He is a major contributor to modern watercolor painting.
